Blanca R. Vazquez, MD, is an attending physician in neurology and Director of Clinical Trials and Outpatient Services at the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center at New York University Medical Center in New York City. Dr. Vazquez received her MD from Universidad Central del Caribe School of Medicine in Puerto Rico. Subsequent to her residencies in internal medicine and neurology at St. Michael's Medical Center in Newark, New Jersey, and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, respectively, Dr. Vazquez completed an epilepsy fellowship at the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center at New York University Medical Center .Dr. Vazquez has served as Principal Investigator for multiple clinical trials of the new antiepileptic medications. Her major research interests are antiepileptic drugs development (clinical trials), surgical treatment of epilepsy, women health and epilepsy, and epilepsy and behavior. Dr. Vazquez is the coauthor of the book Epilepsy and Pregnancy and is author of many articles in peer-reviewed journals. Dr Vazquez is a member of the Board of director of the National Epilepsy Foundation of America where she serves as a liaison with the professional advisory board. She is the medical advisor for the Anita Kaufman Foundation Epilepsy Awareness Campaign. She served as the chair of the professional advisory board of the Epilepsy Foundation of New York City and has been an active member of FACES since it is founding. As the honoree of the 2009 FACES Gala, Dr. Vazquez was awarded with the establishment of the Blanca Vazquez Summer Camp Scholarship Program helping children with epilepsy enjoy a summer of fun and camaraderie.Dr. Vazquez is the recipient of the Dr. Peter Ho Memorial Award for Humanism in medicine, The Woman of the year award for the Hispanic press, 2007 in New York City. She received the distinguish citizenship award from the Government of Puerto Rico, 2008. In the international arena, Dr. Vazquez has worked tired less to provide care for patients outside the USA by collaborating with colleges to create venues of communication and medical education.She also is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the Academy of Neurology, the American Epilepsy Society, the Spanish American Medical Society of New York, the American Medical Association, and the Puerto Rico Academy of Neurology.
