Dr. Liu is a clinician-researcher with specialty training in epilepsy, clinical neurophysiology, and behavioral neurology. Her clinical practice focuses on adult epilepsy, with an emphasis on managing the cognitive and psychiatric aspects of this disease. She also sees patients presenting with memory, language, attentional, or other behavioral complaints.
Dr. Liu earned her medical degree at the University of California San Francisco. She completed her medicine internship and neurology residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital, Weill Cornell. She then finished fellowship training at Beth Israel Deaconess, Harvard Medical School in clinical neurophysiology, followed by a cognitive neurology fellowship. She is dual board certified in Neurology (2010) and Clinical Neurophysiology (2011).
Dr. Liu is also a Leon Levy Neuroscience Fellow (2013-2015) and a Susan Spencer Clinical Research Fellow (2012-2014). By flexibly engaging the tools of EEG and neurostimulation, her research goal is to describe the neural networks involved in memory processing in healthy people and those with epilepsy. A secondary goal is to develop innovative behavioral and technological methods to improve memory function in patients with epilepsy and other neurological disease states. She is currently leading several pilot studies exploring the use of transcranial current stimulation to enhance working memory and memory consolidation.
Previous research projects have employed techniques in neuropsychology and neuroimaging to describe other complex neural phenomena, such as visual processing and creativity, anxiety, and consciousness.
